Welcome to Raj Mpella blog a platform that focuses on education at all levels and all categories. I have spent over 5 years walking into classrooms where other teachers had already given up. Classrooms where students sat quietly in corners, not because they were well-behaved, but because nobody had figured out how to reach them yet. Students with intellectual impairment. Students who were labelled ‘slow,’ ‘difficult,’ or ‘unteachable.’ I refused to accept those labels and you as a teacher should too.
As a special needs education teacher I have worked at one of the Intellectual Impairment Unit in Morogoro Region in Tanzania. The truth I have learned from experience is simple: every child can learn. The question is never whether a student can learn. The question is always: have we found the right way to teach them?
In this article, I am going to walk you through everything you need to know about teaching students with intellectual impairment from understanding what intellectual impairment actually means, to practical classroom strategies, real-life examples, and exam preparation tips. Whether you are a new teacher, a parent, or a student taking degree in education and all related fiels, this guide is written for you.
